Plan for pulling troops out of Iraq

Currently the United States and its allies are engaged in an unjust war. In the constitution it is stated that in order to legally declare war on a nation congress must do so in a majority vote. This how ever is not the first time in our history that a president has declared an unjust war. Although it is commonly referred to as the Vietnam War, congress never declared war on the small country in south Asia.

Although we can not deny the fact that troops are currently deployed in the Middle East and will be there for quite some time that does not mean that should not be a plan to pull out within the next few years. Right now the US is in the position to enact a plan such as this. There are few people that say that the US should stay in the war until the insurgency is stopped and Iraq is a democratic country.

Right now the US is not in the position to radically pull out of Iraq and ends its occupation there. Pulling out of the country now would result in a massive insurgent uprising and the terrorist will only gain strength in number. The US withdrawal from the country should be over a course of several years but each year minimizing the presence of the US soldiers in several areas. Right now the current tour for enlisted personnel is one year with two to three weeks of leave. This tour of duty should be shrunken down to six month rotations between units. This will not only boost moral but put fresh and alert bodies in the field. Democracy has already been brought to the region and in order to successfully integrate this drastic change, the Iraqi Intern-Government should be allowed to control the Iraqi police and deploy its own soldiers. What the US is doing right now is playing "big brother" to the supposedly weaker country. Currently Iraqi soldiers are deployed with US soldiers. This is not a bad thing in a sense that the Iraqi soldiers are getting trained by one of the largest and most powerful armies in the world today. What makes this a bad situation is that the Iraqi soldiers and police that are being trained by the Americans are often the target of the terrorist attacks. If the US were to withdrawal to rapidly the insurgents currently in Iraq would gain in numbers very quickly and over throw the government that is in place.

Another reason that we need to withdrawal sooner than later is that enlistment has hit an all time low. According to the Stars and Stripes news letter, enlistment in the national guard has plummeted to 35% leaving the guard short more than 8,000 members in September of 2004 (starsandstripes.com). That number has since plummeted to 12,600. Army Guard recruiters reported that for the first two months of the fiscal 2005, they had only signed 70% of their monthly goals. One possibility for the drop in enlistment is the war it self. Enlistment now would almost guarantee being shipped off to war. That is one possibility that parents dread, that and the fact that if their children go off to war they may never come back.
