History Paper

In Fences, written by August Wilson, Troy, one of the main characters, had three children and with each he had very different relationships with. I think Cory's rebelliousness, Lyons insensible attitude and Raynell being unwanted all were caused by there fathers uncaring and hatful attitude towards them. That is what this essay is about, having three children from three different mothers and the relationship between the children and there father.

Thirty-four years old and from the first marriage, Lyons is a musician. He doesn't have a steady job, he borrows money from his father and cant afford to make a living from himself and his girlfriend. Worthless, that's the way Troy feels about his oldest sons ambition and dream. Lyons wants his father to be proud of him and what he dose but every time Lyons sees Troy he gets criticized. Lyons only wants his fathers affection and approval.

Cory was very athletic, full of dreams and hard working. Cory always did what his father told him to do but his father never did the same for Cory. Cory wanted to play football and had a scholarship to got and play but since he started to work only weekends his father said no. This had a very big impact on Cory's life and affection toward his father. Afraid of what might become of his son not being let to football and afraid of his son exceeding him. This both became hurtful for Cory and disadvantaged

him since his father had the chance to experience it.

Lucky is what you could say for Raynell, the youngest of the three children, since Troy had passed away when she was seven years old. Since Troy didn't have a real decent relationship with Raynell , since she was little at the time, it may have helped her in that she could have more opportunities than what Troy offered for Lyons and Cory.
