Effective family planning policy ensures that family planning remains an affordable public health measure. The use of family planning significantly reduces maternal and infant mortality rates. This reduction contributes to economic growth. Family planning results in lower rates of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDs cases. It also reduces the rate of transmission of HIV/AIDs among the adolescents (Whelpton et al., 2015). The use of family planning promotes gender equity in the society. It is necessary to expand the access and quality of family planning programs so as to maintain individual and community health. The improvement of personal and social health ensures that people attain their full potential.
The fundamental reason for seeking approval of this policy is to see matters pertaining family planning being prioritized at local and national health and development forums, initiatives, and programs. It is public knowledge that there is a sharp decline in resources for family planning programs and services. This policy addresses the need to reposition family planning and contraceptive security. The implementation of this policy would give a guide to the government and local authorities concerning family planning and contraceptive security agenda. It will also ensure that administrations incorporate family planning agendas into their development goals.
The other purpose of this policy is to empower advocates in the family planning/reproductive health field in their efforts to promote debates on the health and socioeconomic benefits of increasing access to family planning programs and services. The policy contains tailored messages that enable the advocates to use culturally relevant arguments to convince persons on the importance of family planning programs. The major subdivisions of this policy include Family Planning and its influences on maternal and infant mortality and morbidity, the socioeconomic impacts of family planning and adolescent reproductive health.
