Unsocial Media

The world has undergone radical changes in all aspects, and this has brought with it,  the  unveiling of social platforms that individuals have overwhelmingly embraced. There are a number of social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, just to mention a few. People have immensely supported these sites and made them a part of their lives. The impact that social media has had on the society is adverse, many people have suffered as a result, and others have even died due to the addiction towards these social media platforms.

There are various reasons why social media has affected the society harmfully.  For instance, it has destroyed the social habits of individuals and promoted solitude and lack of interaction with people. People prefer to chat all day on Facebook and Whatsapp rather than meeting and interacting in person with others.  It has generated sparse social habits whereby people are unable to socialize and form long lasting healthy relationships.  They prefer to create groups online, where they share their daily movements, instead of spending that time across the table from someone having a conversation.  Users spent so many hours on social media locked up in solitude, it has affected their ability to form normal relationships with people and has impaired their capacity to interact physically with people and develop relations.  In doing so, people become lonely and it has destroyed the formation of healthy relations among individuals.

In addition, social media has changed the society negatively in that many people especially the teenagers have access to harmful content on the web that can corrupt their morals. The media, such as youtube, has videos and other immoral content that misleads young people and damages their ideals. For instance, you find people abusing drugs openly, and information on how to access the drugs and use them publicly posted via the media.   Youths have easily accessed porn through x-rated sites, this information has led to many of them indulging in promiscuity and taking unhealthy risks. As a result, many people have become addicted to pornographic material and drugs which could destroy their lives.
