Exploring marketing in travel and tourism assignment 1

In this assignment I am going to explain what marketing is. I will describe all the principles of marketing which are marketing mix, target marketing, market segmentation and marketing objectives. Then I will describe the principles of marketing and how these objectives are used by the National Maritime museum to meet there objectives.

The principles of marketing used by The National Maritime Museum to meets its marketing objectives are marketing mix, target marketing and market segmentations. These are all the marketing objectives the NMM has to work up to meet there objectives.

Marketing:

The National Maritime Museum uses marketing within there business to promote and sell service to customers. Marketing is about giving the customers what they want every business has to do some sort of marketing. Marketing evolves selling goods including product, price, promotion and place. The National Maritime Museum also want to get more people aware of what they have on offer at there museums.

Marketing mix:

Marketing mix is probably one of the most common words used in marketing. Marketing mix is a mixture of elements that an organisation will use to market a product. Marketing mix is made up of four elements also know as the 4ps which are called price, place, product and promotion.

Promotion:

Promotion, you can't just have a really good product at a low price you have to promote your product or you will make no profit so there for you have to communicate with the customers.

Product:

A product or service the company is going to put on the market to sell to their customers. There are two types of product tangible (physical) and Intangible (non-physical).

Price:

Price means how much the company is going to sell there product or service to there customers.

Place:

Place means the location from where the company is going to sell there product or service from. E.G. if you was going to USA you would not be able to go straight to the USA you would have to book a flight. And you would have to visit a place that books flights or and website.

Target marketing:

Target marketing is the market segment which a certain product is marketed to. Target market also identify the market segment and there needs. Target marketing is usually made up of 5 diffident segments which are called age, gender, social groups, lifestyle and ethnicity.

Marketing segmentation:

Marketing segmentation is used to group customers with similar needs. Organizations do this because not all of there customers will have the same needs so they need to identity what will appeal to certain segment groups. For organizations to find out what id right for each customer they would split the market in to different segments which are:

Age

Age is a very common way for organizations to spilt there customers into different segments. This is mainly because older customers tend to have different interests and needs to younger customers.

Gender

Many organizations use gender to split their market segments. This is because men and women do not always enjoy doing the same activities. And some people do not like being mixed with men or women they would prefer to be in same sex groups.

Social groups

Social groups mean how the organizations divides customers depending on what job they do and the customer's income with can affect how much money they spend.

Lifestyle

Lifestyle means how different customers live there lives for example yuppies young upwardly mobile professional are young people who have just started a career and have a lot of time
