After arriving home from an arduous day at school, I am always mentally drained. Once unlocking the French doors, I enter the house and set my books on the bar, thinking about whether the homework should be completed or procrastinate about the assignments and begin late in the aging evening. In helping me make an excruciating decision, I rely on a particular beverage, one which both refreshes the heart and soul. Although many types of beverages come in various shapes and sizes, one particular soft drink always seems to satisfy my taste buds. Mountain Dew is my partner in crime, motivating me to keep participating in my everyday activities.

After being greeted by my Blue Heeler pup, Poncho, I immediately grab an ice-cold, refreshing Mountain Dew from the coconut-colored refrigerator in my kitchen upon arrival at home after a strenuous day of schooling. The usual routine after entering the kitchen is to walk downstairs to the basement, where the computer rests, and spend time playing a game of Space Cadet Pinball. Somewhere between the kitchen and before sitting in front of the hypnotizing computer, the top of the Mountain Dew will be opened, creating a semi-loud pop that echos through the room for a split second, followed by the recognizable fizzing noise that comes from every pop of the tab.

Whenever attending a football or soccer game at South Dearborn, where the school district does not sell such a prestigious beverage, or if I walk into Frisch's, where they do not allow Pepsi products in the establishment, my Mountain Dew is my shadow. Concealed inside my insulated Carhartt, it will pass by anyone unknowing of it presence. Why settle for a measly undistinguished substitute when you can supply the real deal?

Rather than just staring at the green and decorative can in absolute awe, my first drink is taken as soon as possible, just for the simple purpose of getting a caffeine rush. Sometimes I slam it down, while other
