Obesity in the US

Obesity rates have been growing in United States, and these rates constitute a danger to American society. Obesity is problem that has complex aspects, and scientists are still struggling to understand it. In some cases, the genes are seemingly responsible for the occurrence, and in other cases it seems that the types of configurations or combinations of a number of hormonal factors, factors of metabolism, and behavioral factors play a role in the incidence of obesity. Both obesity and being slightly overweight can be complicated, and they have become global problem. These are not only disease, but also significant risks facing an American society. A lot of people are opposed to obesity, but in fact, most of them do not care about this issue deeply because it has become repeated and habitual issue that is heard in the daily news. According to News Medical’s article, “What is Obesity?,” “Experts believe if the current trends continue by 2015 approximately 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and more than 700 million will be obese.” In adding, “The scale of the obesity problem has a number of serious consequences for individuals and government health systems.” The issue of obesity in America is varied, and it includes childhood obesity, obesity in adults, and obesity in older people.

Childhood obesity is at a critical stage in American society because it is really big problem for children to suffer. Noticeably, obesity is growing year after year between children. The completed definition of childhood by Mayo Clinic Staff stated, “Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents,” and they said, “It occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her age and height” (“Childhood Obesity”). This definition gives a comprehensive concept to understand childhood obesity. This issue lies in that those children at an immature stage contribute to the lack of understanding behaviors in the community, even some of them cannot distinguish the right and wrong things. Now, education became the important way of knowledge and understanding, but unfortunately, schools in the U.S. have simple and low interest to guide students and prepare tips for good eating and healthy food. Indeed, Education is an important factor that helps to put limits and explain the disadvantages of obesity between children. There are also different ways more important to prevent obesity between children, which is the role of parent. In fact, most of us know the important role of our parents in our lives, and they really affect behaviors and habits.
