Physical fitness for the elderly in my community:

“Forever…in motion” is a health promotion initiative available in my community that helps older adults to become physically active through volunteer-led physical activity groups. Promoting physical activity to the older adult community is a key strategy of “Forever …in motion”. As our older adult population increases so does the impact on our healthcare system. One of the greatest health risks for older adults is sedentary living (World Health Organization, 1997).The in motion Older Adult strategy is to improve and maintain the health of older adults living in the community through support, education, research, partnerships and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The strategy focuses primarily on individuals living in seniors’ congregate housing and condominiums or those that attend churches, day programs and community association programs. Their motto is to facilitate and coordinate the support required for older adults, with a focus on physical activity and healthy eating, improve and maintain the health of older adults living in the community. Increase access to community based physical activity opportunities for older adults to ensure sustainability of the older adult “forever..in motion” programs. There are many programs available like swimming, weight training, body conditioning and some social activities after the interviewing three older people with a different lifestyle and habits. Two of them were smokers and one was a physically active. the both who smokes have problems associated with respiration and cardiac as well  and have a hard time to work out for longer as there heartbeat raises very fast as compared to non smoker. They also recover late then a non smoker as smoking can delay they recovery of muscle tissues but indulging in physical activities were helping them to live a better life this is truly said that physical activities are like medicine for elder people to maintain their system and metabolism of the body. It also improves their immune system that helps them the most because our immune system gets weak after some time.
