Being the new hire with this organization, I was asked to sit in on a meeting to observe my co-worker and a salesman that was trying to sell an additional part to a machine that the company recently purchased.

To prepare for future situations on making decisions, I go back to my office to evaluate the decision and in particular to do the following:

1. Identify how Millhouse "framed" his decision.

2. Explain how an alternative "frame" could have resulted in a different decision outcome. What factors would led to an alternative framework.

3. What are the implications of "framing" on our judgments and on our attempts to influence others? Are there moral considerations? Why or why not?

What I noticed within the meeting is how the salesman approached the subject of the price of the equipment and had Millhouse admit that if purchasing this piece of equipment is no more than a price of a can of soda. Millhouse framed his decision on first glance.

An alternative "frame" could have been for Millhouse to weigh the pro's and con's of if the company really needed the piece of equipment or not, before admitting to the salesman that they would go ahead and purchase the piece of equipment. He should have run the sales pitch to his supervisor/manager, before purchasing the equipment. Millhouse should have thanked the matter over first than take it on the spot from the salesman. (Millhouse should have asked questions as to, is it a good idea, will it actually save the company money, and will the piece of equipment be productive for the job.)

The implications of "framing" are the wording that the salesman used to persuade the way the payment could be made by a payment plan. Our judgments and the way that we would influence others are by changing the wording of how we want to sale a product
