Air Pollution

Are we really going to carry an oxygen tank to wherever we go? Or are we going to move to Mars so that we have cleaner air to breathe in? Along with technological advances, the industrial revolution during the mid-19th century introduced new sources of air pollution. By the middle of 20th century, effects of air pollution were beginning to felt in countries around the world. Household combustion devices, motor vehicles, industrial facilities and forest fires are common sources of air pollution. Pollutants of major public health concern include particulate matter, carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide. Outdoor and indoor air pollution cause respiratory and other diseases, which can be fatal. People had been suffering from diseases caused by air pollution due to other’s ignorant actions that result in air pollution. This led to creation of laws such as Clean Air Act in 1970 that was designed to control air pollution on national level. According to World Health Organization (WHO), the term “air pollution” is defined as contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere. It is crucial to pinpoint the problem that causes air pollution and figure out the solutions because air pollution had been a major issue faced by people all over the world. This essay identifies these problems of air pollution and solutions along with examples will be discussed in order to bring such actions to an end so that air pollution can be reduced.
