A Review on the Anime Series "your Lie in April"

I. Introduction

“Your Lie in April” is a 22-episode Japanese manga series which was written by Naoshi Arakawa. The Anime was released on May 15, 2015, the Live action with its initial release on September 10, 2016 directed by Takehiko Shinjo. The main characters Kousei Arima is a child prodigy in playing the piano whose skill was discovered by his mother's (Saki Arima) close friend since college Koharu Seto. Kaori Miyazono who is a free-spirited violinist and also the classmate of Tsubaki Sawabe. Tsubaki Sawabe is Kousei and Ryota's childhood friend, and Kousei's next-door neighbor. She is athletic and a member of the softball club. Ryota Watari as mentioned in the previous characters is the childhood friend of Kousei and Tsubaki, he is also the captain of the soccer team in their school, and he is also popular with the girls. Their story began on the month of April, under the full-bloomed cherry blossoms. With every role of the characters portrayed in the story, gives a twisted and unexpected plot.

II.Summary

Kousei Arima is a child prodigy in playing the piano and has won many competitions since he was young. He was strictly trained by his mother Saki Arima who was portrayed being in a wheelchair in the first episode and owned a music school. When he was 11, during a piano recital, his mother died and it left him with a trauma. He was not able to hear himself playing the piano anymore. After that, he never played the piano for two years and sees the world as monotone like the piano keys - black and white color. Later on, a girl enters their world that will change everything in their lives. Kaori Miyazono, a fourteen-year old violinist who then helps Kousei to return to the world of music and start playing the piano again. Kaori asked Kousei to be her accompaniment at a competition. After their marvelous and moving performance, Kaori collapsed and was hospitalized. She was then visited by Kousei, Watari, and Tsubaki, and told them that she was just anemic and she just needs to undergo testing but this was a lie as it was shown in an episode that she collapsed and bled many times in the past. She was then discharged from the hospital and later asks Kousei to play a Gala with her. When the day of the Gala arrived, she wasn't able to show up as her illness worsens. This time, Kousei is the one who inspired her by having a duet with Nagi Aiza, the younger sister of Kousei's rival Takeshi Aiza in their school festival.
