Abstract

This Virtual Organization E-Business Paper will focus on Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. As

Riordan Manufacturing, Inc continues to conduct business globally, the continued evaluation and focus of and securing company processes will need review, how it will continue to conduct business and secure its internal processes.

As such, this paper will address the following:

a. Analyze the legal issues that the company may face when conducting e-business and discuss possible solutions; and

b. Identify issues that may arise in the company's international business and discuss the conflicts of law that pertain to those issues. What law would apply to these situations? What court will decide these issues?

Virtual Organization E-Business Paper

Riordan Manufacturing, Inc, a leader in plastic injection molding, has facilities in San Jose, California, Albany, Georgia, Pontiac, Michigan and Hangzhou, China. Currently the evaluation of the Hangzhou, China facility has lead to the conclusion that it would be a significant cost savings benefit to relocate the facility to Shanghai. This move, in addition to the cost savings, will put the company in a better position to market their products thereby increasing sales and providing opportunities to open facilities in other countries.

This paper will discuss issues dealing with the complexity that Riordan Manufacturing, Inc may face when conducting business through e-commerce, especially when doing e-commerce business in foreign countries. Additionally this paper will talk about issues the company may encounter when doing business internationally. The main issues that Riordan Manufacturing, Inc will encounter will be international laws such as contract law, settlement of disputes, and related jurisdictional issues. The company will face issues dealing with trademarks, electronic contracts, domain name issues, and cybersquatting while dealing in e-commerce. One such issue that Riordan Manufacturing, Inc may face is infrastructure security. Infrastructure security is especially important in today's hostile environment, both cultural and business. Riordan Manufacturing, Inc will need to solidify their infrastructure to prohibit unauthorized access to the company's network and data warehouses. Unauthorized access could result in loss of trade secrets, customer information, or other data vital to the success of its operation. Securing the data transmissions between company and consumer will also be an issue. Riordan Manufacturing, Inc can help solve these issues by having a department dedicated to the security of the network and electronic communications or contract with an outside company that specializes in infrastructure security.
