The "Truman show" an innovative, courageous film directed by Peter Weir is distinctively not a film about Truman Burbank. Although he may be the main protagonist of the film, theoretically he doesn't exist, and is only there to bring out the main theme of the text. As an actual fact, this film is about our society as many of the themes that are conveyed throughout the film can be described as being based around our society such as technological influences and social and psychological behaviour.

The "Truman Show" is not a film about Truman Burbank. Technically he does not exist as a direct character of the film, more of a character in a film that's inside another film. This makes it should like we are watching a virtual actor which means he isn't real and if so, how can the film be about something that isn't real? Doesn't that contradict the sense of logic?

The "Truman Show" is not about Truman although he may be the main character of the film; the Truman Show is about the idea or messages that is being conveyed by Truman as well as all the rest of these characters, that these themes are developed. For example; A memorable scene of Truman on the boat against Christof's 'storms' which expresses the idea of bravery and tells he audience that anything can be done when someone puts their mind and heart to it.

There are many themes that are expresses throughout the film by all of the actors. However, all of these themes all relate to and combine to form our modern society. Firstly, the idea of technological influences, through the whole film, it can be seen vividly that many of the spectators are basically 'glued' to the television screen. These range from people in a bar, in a bath, old people are home and even security guards. Just short scenes of showing these people with their complete attention to the television tells us just how technology has influenced us as a modern society. How we depend on it, how we focus our attention to a lot of the time and how much of our affluence have been used up in exchange
