The safety of the internet is one of the most contreversial debates at the moment. Is it a helpful educational tool or a window to disturbing sites and pornography. Iam here today to discuss the pros and cons of the use of the internet especially to children and teenagers.

The internet can be seen from a positive point of view as a tool which can be used as an encyclopedia for every subject you can imagine. It can be used to communicate with friends throught instant messaging and e-mails, somthing which could not be done without the internet, and means that fort example people can talk to people in countries all over the world. Information on everything from holiday bookings to turtles can be easily found in seconds. Another positive aspect is online shopping, you can download and buy anything under the sun. This service is helpful

to everyone from lazy teenagers to elderley people who can now buy their weekly shopping whithout having to leave the house. Also the internet is a source of fun and games. There are many interesting and funny sites where you can have harmless fun playing games and looking at pictures.

But.... it can also be taken advantage of by the wrong sorts of people. The seemlessly harmless chat rooms where it is advertised for kids to make new friends, there is no way of knowing if you are talking to a 14 year old girl or a 40 year old man. This is the one of the biggest dangers. We have all heard the stories about young children being taken advantage of but knowone thinks it could be them or their children. Children and parents need to learn about precautions which need to be taken in order to keep the internet innocent. The other main problem is the lack sensoring. Children of any age can end up downloading pornography or other violent and unsuitable images. It is positivly unexceptable for images and sites like these to be made available to people of any age without proper warnings etc.... Another problom
