The Land Of Opportunities For Minorities

It seems nowadays in America that being the majority race puts you in a rather large disposition and keeps you from benefiting from many of the social services that most minoritys enjoy. This idea Ive had was fostered from a story that my sociology professor had told us. She told us that her and a friend were watching Oprah and she was giving gifts to the victims of Hurricane Katrina when her friend posed the question: Where are all the white people? If you look at statistics, there were more African American folks living in that area than there were Caucasian people which makes logical sense that you would see more African Americans getting benefit checks and gifts from charities than you would Caucasians, but look on a national scale, try to think about how many different activist groups, human services, charities including college funds, and even colleges themselves that have minorities as their primary focus.

You may be surprised at the amount of attention and the amount of groups that are geared toward the betterment of their specific race. African Americans for example have National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (N.A.A.C.P.), the African American Business Link (A.A.B.L.), United Negro College Fund, and African American Community Service Agency. Tuskegee University has even gone so far to post on their website a statement that claims their primary focus is African American community although they have a clause that they accept students of any race. If other colleges or universitys would make public statements that their primary agenda was advancing the Caucasian community it would be safe to assume that minority groups of all races would be in an uproar and scream racial discrimination even though it would only be fair seeing as universitys like Tuskegee are allowed to do the same in reverse.

Its not only other races that have special groups and services available to them, but women also have services dedicated to helping them. Women have access to services like: Women in Transition, Battered Women Justice Project, and Women-Infants-Children.
