What is the internet? Technically, it is when information is shared back and forth amongst computers located in different locations. This is something that has evolved and has changed so much up until this day that it could be given a different more personal meaning. To many people, like myself, this could be described as a service that is used everyday that makes life much easier and that could not be lived without.

The internet was developed in the 1960's to share information on research and development in scientific and military fields. It was designed in part to provide a communications network that would work even if some of the sites were destroyed by nuclear attacks. From there, the internet was only used by computer experts, engineers, scientists and librarians. There were no home or personal computers in those days, so they had to learn to use a very complex system. There was nothing fun about it. It did not become fun until 1994 when most people had personal computers, were able to access the net and were able to do things like order pizza online from Pizza Hut or even do a little online shopping. That was back in 1994. Now, eleven years later, there is an unimaginable amount of things the internet allows us to do, which is why it has become so popular and such a part of every day life.

The internet has become particularly important to me in those regards. I find myself on it everyday as part of my Ð''daily routine.' I wake up and before leaving to go anywhere, I am accustomed to checking the weather, my email, and usually the status of an order due to my constant habit of online shopping. Shopping in this way has become like a hobby now. Not only is online shopping quick, fun and easy, but the internet has given so much more variety and makes items available to buy that would be hard to find unless you lived in New York or California.
