TED Bill Gates: Teachers need real feedback

Bill gates said that when teachers get some feedback, they usually get “satisfactory.” It means that they can’t know their real problems and upgrade their teaching skills. Actually there are a lot of teaching skills as much as a number of teachers. It was wondered that if it is possible to evaluate various teachers and their skills by the simple word “satisfactory.” So Bill Gates introduced case of teacher who has self-evaluation through videotaping her class and watching after class is over. After class, she is sitting down class chair and watching recording of her class. She has some self-comment about her class and reflects herself.

In Korea, there are uniform type of teacher’s evaluation. When my semester is over, Ewha wants to us to have some evaluation of professors who teach us during former semester. However, all the article which ask about professor’s teaching skills and class mood are same regardless who is professor. So it may not be a best evaluation and give professors not adequate comment for next class. To solve this problem, I think that the type of evaluation have to change to personalized version.

TED How to learn any language in six months

When I first saw this video, I was wondering that if it is possible to learn a second foreign language in six month. Almost all of the student in Korean have had effort on learning English and speaking fluently, however it is quite hard to speak English fluently except the cases of studying abroad. I was studied in foreign language high school and what I was interested in was studying English and Chinese hard and getting high score in Korean SAT like other students want to.

However, when I watched Chris’s video, I could know what is different between Chris and Korean student thought. We, Korean, study English and other languages for exam getting high score. Around me, there is no student who study foreign language without test purpose. However, the theory of Chris’s learning language is purposed on understanding language purely, not for solving the test problems. He said body language is best way to learning language, however most Korean do not agree. I think that his thought and saying are absolutely true. There are no one who do not know when we start studying second foreign language, listening is best and essential part. However, in reality, it is very hard to action and its result does not show quickly.
