Survival Guide for College

When it comes to college curriculum there is many useful information that will make the transaction from high school to college a very smooth transition. In this paper the deliberations will be based- on what the IT course group has learned and how to apply it to other college courses, and in some ways it will also apply to parts of everyday success. These helpful tools will make for a superior and more useful way of applying the learning skills that was learned. When it comes to being part of the information age, students must not only achieve but obtain all the information they can in their course of study. Listed below is some functional information that is imperative to all students.

. Some of the more useful information that has been well-informed was how to use the Internet as a research tool and how to successfully use the library online. When conducting research most people would agree that the internet is a vast world of information. The hardest part is to distinguish if this information is credible.(UK Cooperative Extension service, 2005) Information on the net can be found in any search engine. The problem with this, unlike a library is that anyone can put information on the web.(UK Cooperative Extension Service) Finding information does not make it true or resourceful. This makes it hard to distinguish the good from the bad. Recommendations for this particular situation; is that after a student has found a source, try locating another similar source, making sure that the student knows the reputation of the author, when the page was written and other information that will be useful to the student when the information calls . The better of the two would be to try to mostly use the resources available to the student through the college library. These resources have accreditation and contain information that any student will not have to worry if indeed it is plagiarized or if it has someone's opinions and not facts.

The second important issue that needs to be addressed is Academic Honest. Academic Honest comes into play in a normal college setting but more so when attending an online college due to the nature of being a student in a distance learning scenario. This simply means that when students are doing a paper or answering questions, students do not want to use someone's word or works. Professionals most certainly do not want to plagiarize. Taking into consideration how the writer might feel if their words are cited in someone else's works or paper. Do not cut yourself short and commit plagiarism. Using resources wisely, making the most of the time that students have, planning ahead, will most certainly help with avoiding plagiarism. Planning ahead and using the Universities, Center for Writing Excellence is another useful resource. Submitting a paper to the CWE gives students insight to grammar errors as well as plagiarism mistakes. This can come in handy during the final preparations of a paper or in the rough stages of a paper.

When using the term "Developing Effective Study Skills", it should be taken with seriousness. Studying skills are not something that students just do. Learning to study and keeping up with assignments is a commitment, a student just does not fall into.(Real, 2005) Learning to study effectively takes time and effort, long hours, and many hours of studying to effectively achieve a workable studying skill. Students should achieve first off, a place of which to study, a timely manner of studying, and apply all these factors into becoming effective learners. Falling into the trap of "oh, I can do it later", procrastinating will in turn make good students into poor students. Students should be organized and stay on task. No one in the college setting will tell students in a special note that assignments are due, or that a student can do it later. College is very much so a different learning scenario than high-school. Effective study habits are something that every student carries for the rest of lives. When studying it is useful to use the SQ3R that was discussed in IT 105. Scan, question, read, recite, retain. This application of learning is invaluable when
