The play "A Dolls House" is written by Henrik Ibsen. The setting of the play is in the Helmer's house, and the plat is written in third person limited- to Nora- point of view. The protagonist and/or main character is Nora. The theme of the play is learning to take care of yourself.Ibsen wrote this play to infrom women that they can be independent.

Throughout the play, Nora is trying to be independent but, she has always depended on someone to take care of her. First it was her father and now it is her husband. Torvald. In act 1 of the play, Nora and Mrs.Linde have a conversation in which Nora explains to Mrs.Linde how she "saved her husbands life". Some of the things Nora and Mrs.Linde said in the conversation helped identify how childish Nora is and what she thinks being ndependent is all about. Nora said, "I told you about our trip to Italy. Torvald couldnt have lived if he hadnt managed to get down there." Mrs.Linde said, "Your father provided the money?" "So trovald and everyone else thinks"-"But where did you get it from?... You couldnt have borrowed it. Well a wife cant borrow money without her husbands consent.", said Mrs.Linde. She had borrowed money from the bank and hasnt payed it back. Her father didnt spill the beans because he was ill and died soon after Nora and her husband returned from Italy. She shows will to grow, but is going about it the wrong way.

The main plot of this story consists of 5 important events. The exposition is the conversation between Nora and Mrs.Linde in the first act, that introduces us to the conflict. She borrowed 250 pounds to transport her husband to Itlay, because a warmer climate is what the doctor ordered. The rising action takes place in act 1 when the man from the bank, Krogstad, tells Nora that he wants his money by christmas eve and his job insured at the bank, where her husband works. Nora agreed.
