Staffing Metrics is the key indicator of human resource performance in an organization. A good staffing metric should be consistent, actionable, and trackable. Tracking metrics is not commonly prioritized by a number of companies, it is time consuming but at the same time very essential in measuring the success a staff’s efforts. It should also be in line with organizational goals. There are various broad areas of staffing metrics that we are going to look at in this topic; employee satisfaction metrics, cost per hire metrics and labor turnover metrics. In addition to that, the above categories are also going to be related to the performance of Monsanto Company as far as staffing metrics is concerned. Monsanto is an agricultural company that ensures availability of agricultural products to all the farmers globally. The company produces seed brands for a variety of crops e.g. fruits and vegetables and herbicides that farmers use to protect their crops and by extension cost minimization is eminent in the process of farming.

To commence with, it is important to note something on the satisfaction metric. In most cases when employees are happy, a chain of happy customers can also be realized. For example, at Monsanto Company, the satisfaction metrics helped in understanding the employees’ frustrations and delight that they derive from the management and that can help the management to make and effect improvements on the areas of weakness to affect organizational effectiveness, sales and services to the customers. Statisticians in most cases do have different views when focusing on the measurement of satisfaction and as a result, this has always been done through survey with the help of someone with vast experience in that field to gather the needed information.

Cost per hire is the next category. It is an area that deals with the cost of hiring a new worker in the company. In most cases, good managers prioritize to give considerations to the total cost of labor. Measures of the cost of labor are expected to be consistent and confined within the technical operations of the firm and can as well be assessed through comparisons with other worthy competitors. The standard metrics under this category include; overtime rates that involve payment of salaries in accordance to the total overtime worked, the total payroll cost that sums up the total amount paid to all workers in the organization, the labor cost per unit i.e. work piece rate and the costs that are non-productive e.g. holiday leave(Wallace, pg33).

We can also look at turnover cost metrics in an organization as another major area. The process of hiring and training new employees cost money and for a fact, Monsanto Company tends to retain her employees by reducing the problem of labor turnover and also making attempts to perfect on efficiency to avoid frequent replacement of employees. These is done to save on cost since labor turnover rates affects the company’s strategic planning and human resource planning at a cost. The most common metrics used in this area include the total cost to recruit which is the sum of all costs of the hiring process, the total time to hire which the total time consumed during the recruitment process and the annualized turnover rate that gives us a dozier on the yearly turnover of Monsanto.

Metrics are popularly known to be administered by the human resource managers or staffing metrics agencies who deals with activities that are labor-related. Human resource managers conduct job evaluations and appraisals to determine individual employees’ performance with the main aim of citing areas of reward and areas that need employment of effective measures to perfect operations of Monsanto Company. Human resource managers also conduct surveys in order to come up with information touching on satisfaction and engagement of employees in the activities of the company. Managers who are experienced and with vast statistical knowledge, are also seen to chip in to help in areas of productivity with the help of technical supervisors who engage directly
