Theme: Education is one-step in equality for all in the 1800s in promoting a stable, morally conscience and educated society tuition free for all starting in the Northern states.

Thesis: In this essay, Mr. Mintz goes through the history of free education and the steps that the Northern states such as New York took in cleaning up the state from the morally corrupt and, to educate the society equally in creating standardized schools funded by taxes.

Evidence:

A) In order to reform education and morals in the mentally and, physically handicapped and the deviant members of society the Northern states enforced public schools to where students were taught the building blocks of stability and morality in the beginning of the 18th Century this held true until the 1820s when the asylums where made into state ran facilities, by having more patients and fewer dollars the facilities ran out of time and money to give personalized education and therapy.

B) In the 1840s, corporal punishment had been outlawed in most schools and in Boston and New York teachers had to document the use of such punishment. The use of corporal punishment in schools provoked anger and hostility in the working class parents there by defining a line between the classes of people.

C) In the 1850s and 1860s, many of the reform schools and mental intuitions were divided into smaller groups to help define and apply morally correct behaviors with positive reinforcement and a family or community concept from educators. With many of the public facilities ran in smaller groups there has been a more positive outcome in the length of time that the facilities exist.
