Norlin Library Research

When I got on to the databases at Norlin library they confused me at first because I really didn’t know how to navigate through it, but I ended up getting the hang of it. The first database that I went in to that interested me was the Infrotrac Pop Culture Collection. This database was a collection of articles that had to do with art, advertising, sports, music, and etc… The articles in the database came from magazines like Sports Illustrated, and Entertainment weekly, and other popular magazines. I was interested mostly in the sports section I searched Lakers a NBA basketball ball team, but I really didn’t get much at all I only got one article and it have nothing to do with the Lakers.

The second database I looked into was the Infrotrac Religion. The articles come from 250 magazines on religion. This mostly interested because I was just wondering if they had a lot on Information on Jainism, which they did. This database would have been really helpful when we did our projects and paper on the religions. Another cool thing I found is that when you clicked on an article down below was a citation for the article already in MLA format.

When I went to the reference section of the library they had a ton of books. The one that caught my eye was a book called The Sign and Jargon of Drugs and Drink by Richard A. Spears. This book was a collection of terms used for drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Most of the terms from the book came from the US. The book was really interesting because there are so many words to say besides drunk, wasted, or intoxicated. There are some pretty crazy words that I have never heard before like addled, all wet, and booze king. All these words I mentioned where mostly related to being drunk, or intoxicated. This book I liked because it was funny and I like learning new things about random stuff.

The second reference book I kind of just grabbed randomly. The book is called Best Books for Children by John T. Gillespie. This book is a list of children books that a child can read and meets school standards. The books listed are for Children between preschool and sixth grade. The books listed range from picture books, to history to art and languages books. It also not only lists the books but it also gives you an overview of the book.

On the second floor of the library they have Art stacks of books. I found a pretty awesome book called Cave Art by Paul G. Bann. This book was awesome it contained pictures of the Ice age Caves in Europe and Asia. The pictures in the book just amazed me and it was crazy how detailed theses people can draw or carve on the rocks. I bet that took a great amount of time and patience. A lot of the pictures in this book where mostly of animals like buffalo, reindeer, and horses.

The second Book I found in the are stack was just insane I don’t know how to really explain It The name of the book is Thing. This book had really crazy picyures of art from just trash or any kind of object. One of the pictures in the book was just a old torn down couch with broken legs. Another pic in there was just old watered down, broken piano. Its crazy what people think of art. Art is pretty much anything around
