President Kennedy took action in the cause of equal rights. He called for new civil rights. His saw America as being united, black or white, we were all the same.

Kennedy allowed a band of Cuban exiles to invade their homeland. The Soviet Union again started its campaign against West Berlin. Kennedy reinforced the Berlin garrison and increased the Nation's military strength. He also focused on new efforts in outer space.

When it was discovered that Russia was planning to store nuclear missiles in Cuba Kennedy started a quarantine on offensive weapons heading there. The world was in fear of a nuclear war when Russia backed down, agreeing to take the missiles away. In the months following the Cuban crisis progress was shown toward the goal of ridding the world of war.

On November 22, 1963 the President and Mrs. Kennedy were present in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas. To the worlds surprise, this simple affair would end in tragedy. Three shots were fired. The first and third hit Kennedy, with the second injuring the governor of Texas. Jackie fled for the back of the car, trying desperately to get to safety. When the realization of what had just happened sunk in the car sped to a nearby hospital where doctors tried everything to revive the shot president.

The nation mourned over the loss of President Kennedy. Right away they swore Johnson in as president. Jackie later wrote a letter of great appreciation to the Johnson's. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the assassination. While he was being transferred from the city prison to the county jail a man named Jack Ruby shot and killed Oswald.

The FBI destroyed many documents that were in Oswald's possession and the CIA withheld much material as well. It is still unknown who exactly was behind the assassination of President Kennedy. There are suspicions of the CIA, the Soviets, the FBI, and the Mafia.

JFK was buried at Arlington
