Presentation and Analysis of Data

Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean. It is a small, relatively flat island, of approximately 35 square miles (see Figure #1). It is located in the Lesser Antilles, the most northerly of the Leeward Islands. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors which account for Anguilla's population distribution. Population distribution is a term used to describe the way in which people are spread out across an area.

In this study, Anguilla, the study area, was divided into 5 smaller zones. These zones were named A to E (see Figure #2). Each zone consisted of specified villages. Zone C was found the be the most highly populated zone with 36 persons living there. Zones B, D, E and A followed with 26, 16, 12 and 8 persons respectively as shown in Figure # 3 (pie chart).

Census information from the year 2000 also shows Zone C as the area with the highest population with B D E A following in the same order (see Table # 1). This data was also use to contruct a population distribution map for Anguilla (see Figure # 4).
