Background on global greenhouse effects/restraints
"greenhouse effect - n. - The phenomenon whereby the earth's atmosphere traps solar radiation, caused by the presence in the atmosphere of gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane that allow incoming sunlight to pass through but absorb heat radiated back from the earth's surface." (www.thefreedictionary.com)
Over the course of about thirty years the Earth's average temperature has increased by about one degree Fahrenheit, according to NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies. One century with current gas emissions could cause the Earth's average temperature to increase another four degrees Fahrenheit, which could mean disaster for everybody around the world.
Some potential effects of this increase in temperature include, but is not limited to, widespread coral bleaching which would cause considerable damage to sea life, melting of the polar ice caps causing a dramatic sea level increase, and a collapse of the Atlantic currents that stabilizes temperatures in northern Europe. All of these could happen within a couple centuries if not decades, but would take much longer to reverse, especially the melting of the polar ice caps which could take thousands of years to reverse.
The U.S. has been spending about $2 billion each year on researching the Earth's climate and the potential effects it may have on our society in the near future. The U.S. has been the leader in greenhouse gas emissions (million metric tons) and is projected to remain the leader for some time.
New Global Climate Preservation Plan (NGCPP)
New research and international advances in the science of global environment has indicated that today is the pivotal era in history in which serious action must be taken to save not only this planet and its environment, but the human race itself. This worldwide issue will no longer be taken for granted as it affects everybody on this earth and generations to come. Our children will not suffer tomorrow due to a lack of commitment in the American people today. This is an unavoidable responsibility that all of us have brought upon ourselves. The solution to this problem is now America's utmost priority, as we do not want to be exterminated by the toxic subsidiaries of our modern luxuries.
I propose that five billion dollars be slowly carried off of the funds of every federal research program and all federal organizations equally, and all of it be spent on international research of a solution to this global problem. This sufficiently funded research program should first find a new, clean energy source to rid the world of carbon dioxide emissions produced by oil and other natural fuels. For this to work, I think it would be best to contact the world's leading scientists and ask for their
