Environmental Trends and Conditions in Administrative Services Management

Whenever I make a decision, it not only affects me, but it affects my family as well. I looked over my life, I was happy with what I saw, but I felt that I could make a few changes. I decided to set myself a few goals. My most important goal is to obtain my master's degree. Within five years, I would like to have received my master's degree and on my way to finding a better job. When making a decision to change careers, it is very important to find valuable information. After a little research, I found that there was one position in particular, an administrative services manager, which I found appealing. In order for me to successfully achieve my goals, I must first understand what is required of this position. In order to become an administrative services manager, I must be able to meet the necessary requirements, find a salary that meets my family needs, and be aware of any challenges I may face.

There are several requirements which must be met prior to being hired as an administrative services manager. According to the South Carolina state job website, a bachelor's degree and relevant experience in administrative services, public administration or business management are the minimum requirements for this position. The Occupational Outlook Handbook stated that "persons interested in becoming an administrative services manager should have good communication skills and be able to establish effective working relationships with many different people" (Administrative Services Managers, p. 26). I should also be detailed-oriented, flexible, a multi-tasker, and dependable. Even though these are some requirements, they vary depending on the position or the company.

Finding a salary that meets my family's needs is very important. There are several factors which come into play when determining the salary for an administrative services manager, such as geographical areas, the employee, and the specialty. However, there is a median salary which is used for generalizing the possible earnings; according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the "median annual earnings of administrative services managers in May 2004 were $60,290" (Administrative Services Manager, p. 26). Currently, I reside in Columbus, Georgia. Based on the information obtained from a survey, "Columbia, South Carolina is the least expensive city in the Southeast. Columbia's costs were nearly 6% below the national median and nearly 40% lower than New York City, the nation's most expensive city" (Cost of Living,Ð'¶3). This information is extremely valuable. It helps with making the decision to look into applying for an administrative services manager position. Financial stability is the key if my family and I decide to continue to reside in Georgia. With my husband's income and mine, we will hardly have any worries.
