Racism is a belief that inherent differences among various human races, usually among involving the idea that one's own race is superior. It is hatred of another race thus it is discrimination.(ask.com). The essay, poem, and short story we chose on discrimination

although written along time ago proves to us the same things are going on now, it is just not as blatant now as it was then. Langston Hughes, the author of the poem Share-Croppers wrote how racism and discrimination affected him and the society which he grew up in. When the cotton is picked and the work is done, boss man takes the money and we get none (Hughes, pg. 222). Reading the poem Share-Croppers one might assume something as negative and degrading as that would never happen because we live in the 21st century, or will it? People experience racism and hatred in the workplace everyday,

some just do not say anything fearing retaliation, ridiculed, or even worse fired. No one wants to be subjected to that type of harassment so a lot of them keep quiet. When one thinks of racism or discrimination they automatically assume it is hatred against another race, for instance black or white. But there is such a thing as discrimination towards one another in the same race. In the short story In Service, written by Louisa May Alcott, you see that very thing unfold. Both women were white an American, but one was rich and one was poor. They were having a conversation which went like this (your name is, Christine Devon, too long, I should prefer to call you Jane as I am accustomed to the name)(Alcott, pg. 5). Although the were both white, the rich one felt more superior therefore choosing to give her another name. Without giving her a chance because of her status she just poured out all that hatred. That very thing happens today in the workplace and even though it happens differently it happens and not only between white people. There are people who go through life with blinders
