Introduction

        In the words of long-time businessman and recent presidential nominee, Donald J. Trump, “Let’s make America great again.” Following Trumps Presidential Announcement Speech one is able to apply the descriptive analysis framework to further their knowledge of the purpose, audience, persona, tone, structure, evidence, and strategy of this speech. After further examination we will gain a deeper insight to Trump’s goals and aspirations for his presidential campaign.  

Descriptive Analysis of Donald J. Trumps Presidential Announcement Speech

Purpose

        The purpose behind Donald Trump’s Presidential Announcement Speech was motivated to get the American people an implicit indication that America is in a gradual decline through the condition of the global economy and it’s very own infrastructure. “Sadly the American dream is dead. But if I get elected president, I will bring it back bigger and better and stronger than ever before and we will make America great again” (Trump). This confident and persuasive mentality seeks to find those who believe America is not number one anymore and trust in Trump’s intelligence and authority. Trump goes on to say, “We have all the cards, but we don’t even know how to use them. We don’t even know we have the cards because our leaders don’t understand the game.” This is a direct blow to our current government officials in which he portrays them as incapable, inexperienced, and unfit for their existing position. This statement seeks to blame those who have lead the nation into turmoil, but contemplates the audience to consider his words and believe he has a way to fix the issues.

Audience

Donald Trump’s Presidential Announcement Speech took place at Trump Tower in New York City, New York. There was an immediate audience during his speech, but how many, who, and in what sort of room setting was indistinguishable from the stance the camera showed. His target audience during his speech was aimed at the everyday American. Trump wants to build his relationship with the American people by using words such as “we” and “us”; showing that without the voters coming together, Trump cannot achieve his goals for the betterment of everyone. “Believe me, folks. We will do very, very well, very, very well” (Trump). This correlation between himself and the audience will be crucial in chances of winning the election and becoming president.

Persona

Due to the fact that Donald Trump had to work hard for his accomplishments he is able to take on the role as both blue collar and white collar. Trump states, “Our country has tremendous potential. We have tremendous people.” With this persona, Trump is able to stand with as well as lead the people in the direction of a better economic future. Time and time again, Donald Trump personifies his ability to persuade and amplify his credibility as a politician and a businessman. For example, Trump depicts what he is planning to do for the United States by saying he hopes to, “Rebuild the countries infrastructure. Nobody can do that like me, believe me. It will be done on time, on budget, way below costs, way below what anyone thought.” Donald Trump’s goals for the future show great integrity in his plan to better the lives of the American people.

Tone

A great indication of Donald Trump’s devotion and how important this election is to him is when he was quoted saying, “I love my life. I have a wonderful family.” But when claims were made he would not run because he would not want to leave his lifestyle, he responds, “They are right about that, but I am doing it.” This announcement about running for president shows he is all in even though he will have to sacrifice certain aspects of his daily routine. This portrays Trump’s selfless dedication to the election and bettering those who live in the United States of America.
