Decision-Making Analysis

In today's society in which students and adults live, the need to think and to make the right decisions is very important. As students, we are faced with decisions about our peers, drugs, our driving habits, our education, our jobs, sex, and normal every day life. As we become older, we are faced with decisions about children, money, jobs, and our elderly parents. A good decision-making module can also enable us to have confidence in our decisions and beliefs. According to our text, critical thinking is defined as "the ability and willingness to assess claims and make objective judgments on the basis of well-supported reasonsÐ'...." (Fletcher). This paper will go on to explain that language is the essential ingredient to our survival as human beings of critical thinking. The greater our command of language, the greater our potential is for critical thinking.

Language is very important to how well we use critical thinking. Someone once told me that language is the currency of our thoughts and expressions in the world that we all live in today. If said the wrong way, our words can be taken the wrong way. Pretty much what we say we have to mean.

Take for, example when I moved to Tucson, Arizona. When I moved I had to sit down and re-consider what my options were for a job because this is a bi-lingual area and I do not speak a second language. So I sat down and went through the five step process to critical thinking. The five step process consists of reaching the decision point, researching, evaluating, take action and review (Figure 1). The five step process has helped me locate a job.

Step one reaching the decision point. Once I sat down I made sure what I wanted to look for. I figured I wanted to work in the the restaurant industry because I love to cook and have been doing it pretty much all my life. Step two, evaluate.
