An eye for and eye is the Count Of Monte Cristo concept for revenge toward Caderousse. Caderousse was a tailor. He was also the Count's father's landlord and neighbor. While Count was at sea, Caderousse demanded the return of his loan the Count from the Count’s father who by complying deprived himself of sufficient money and nearly starved to death. Caderousse Later watches two men mail a letter that accuses the Count of supporting Napoleon. The letter causes the count to get arrested. Caderousse says nothing in the Counts defense when he is arrested. These events are the cause for the Counts revenge plot. The Count of Monte Cristo is responsible for Caderousse’s downfall.

The Count chose this form of revenge because he knew that Caderousse could not resist the temptation of extra money. The Count punished him in this because Caderousse took away all the money that Count left for his father. When the Count escaped from jail he remembered what a love for money Caderousse had. Therefore he brought Caderousse a diamond. Caderousse has an appraiser came to his house. The appraiser paid for the diamond and then stayed for the night. In middle of the night Caderousse killed the appraiser and took both the diamond and the money paid for it. Caderousse’s greed got the best of him.

Caderousse was caught and sentenced to life hard labor in prison. When the Count finds this out he helps Caderousse break out of prison. Caderousse always feels that he deserves more. With each improvement in his position, Caderousse’s desires only increase. Caderousse consistently resorts to dishonorable means in order to acquire what he wants, thieving and even murdering in order to better his own position. Caderousse’s greed catches up with him, and he dies while trying to rob the count.

The Count understood Caderousse's greed and punished him through it. Caderousse betrays him and ruins his life.
