Classification and Division

The video game industry is a multibillion dollar a year industry, so it isn't hard to understand why they go through great strides to protect their image. They provide entertainment to all ages, genders, nationalities, and ethnicities. Contrary to the opinions of the industries opponents, video games are not destroying our youth, they challenge, educate, and provide an escape from an oppressive world.

There are four main types of video games; RPG or role-playing game, RTS or real-time strategy, FPS or first person shooter, and sports titles. Of these the FPS is probably the most popular, allowing people to get together with their friends, or go online, and play against real people as opposed to the computers artificial intelligence.

Call of Duty, and its subsequent variations, is probably the most popular first person shooter today. Set during World War II, it is one of a small handful of games that stimulates, enlightens, and provides an outlet. The story starts with the Airborne drops over Normady on D-Day. Players take a realistic journey through the French countryside, experiencing the trials that confronted our grandfathers. Gamers must learn to use tactics with the same military precision that is used in real life. Once players are tired of playing the story line they can go online using the multi-player option and test their skills against other gamers from across the world. Most individuals are capable of spending several hours in front of their computers or TVs without moving.

The second most popular type of game is the real-time strategy. There are hundreds of games that fit in this category, but only a small handful that fit the overall criteria. For some there is only one, Rome: Total War. It is the epitome of a game that provides knowledge, that is demanding, and allows for a withdrawal from the real world. It takes gamers to a whole different level of gaming experience, and challenges them like no other game in the industry. Players are immersed in the world of the first civilizations. They must learn economics, politics, diplomacy, construction, military tactics, naval
