Chinese Belief Essay

What were the differences and interesting facts of the Chinese religions? The three main beliefs of the Chinese were Legalism, Daoism, and Confucianism. All three of these played a big part in Chinese culture.

Confucianism was a belief that harmony, social order, and good government could be restored in China by following the five main relationships. The first relationship was between a ruler and a subject. The second consisted of a father and a son. Next was a husband and a wife. Fourth was an older brother and a younger brother. Lastly was a friend and a friend.

Daoism was a belief that originated from the philosophy of Laozi. People who believed in Daoism were led to pursue scientific studies. This was derived from their knowledge and understanding of nature. Daoists made contributions to the sciences of astronomy, medicine, and alchemy. Many Daoists sought harmony and order, as they believed that was the proper way of life. They also believe that humans do the worst job of following this principle.

Legalism taught their followers that a ruler should provide rich rewards for people who carried out their duties well. Likewise, they also believed that the disobedient should be punished harshly. In their villages, they emphasized punishment more than rewards. Legalists believed in controlling actions as well as ideas. They once suggested that a ruler burn all writing that might encourage people to think about the government critically. They solemnly swore by the principle that it was the prince’s job to govern, and the people to obey.

Legalism and Confucianism are alike and different in several ways. For instance, Confucianism believes in instilling a strong government. Likewise, legalism also follows this philosophy.
