Brain Fingerprinting

A new paradigm in criminal justice

Brain fingerprinting is a technique that measures recognition of familiar stimuli by measuring electrical brain wave responses to words, phrases, or pictures that are presented on a computer screen.

Ð'* American neurologist Dr Lawrence A Farwell. An expert in brain wave science,was the inventor of this invaluable technique.

Ð'* He called his technique 'brain-wave fingerprinting' or 'brain mapping test.'

Ð'* MERMER(Memory and Encoding Related Multifaceted Electroencephalographic Response) is a brain response derived from the EEG data at different sites

Ð'* Main componentÐ" P300 wave which is is emitted from an individual's brain approximately 300 milliseconds after it is confronted with a stimulus that has special significance to that individual

Ð'* There are no verbal stimuli as it is based on EEG signals.

Technique

Ð'* The accused is first interrogated after which sensors are attached to his/her head

Ð'* The subject is shown certain images or made to hear certain sounds.

Ð'* The sensors monitor electrical activity in the brain and register P300 waves, which are generated only if the subject has connection with the stimulus -- picture or sound.

It is a relatively new technique however, one that is emerging to be one of the finest ways of detecting criminals.

It has been tested by various agencies already like the FBI, the CIA etc for
