Explain what is the basis of Christian ethical beliefs and teachings.

Christian ethics is defined as the systematic study of the way of life set forth by Jesus Christ applied to the daily demands and decisions of human existence. Christian ethics developed while early Christians were under persecution by the Roman Empire. From the time when Nero blamed Christians for setting Rome ablaze (64AD), until Galerius (311AD), persecution was erupted periodically. Consequently, early Christian ethics included discussions on how believers should relate to roman authority and to the empire. Therefore, Christian ethics has developed over the centuries over time and society has changed rather than the ethics being created at one time and do not reflect societies views. The Bible is the basis of Christian beliefs and teachings. The first thing the bible tells Christians is, our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and that we should honour God with it (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). By using the bible believers can determine their course in any given situation. In some it will be simple, like the rules for Christian living we find in Colossians, chapter 3. The Holy Spirit indwells each and every believer, and part of his role is teaching us how to live: "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" John 14:26. "As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeitÐ'--just as it has taught you, remain in him" 1 John 2:27.

Christian ethics are based on the bible. They have shaped meaning for all Christian believers as society has become profound. Christian ethics have been determined by situations that arose within Christianity.
