Recently I was lucky enough to score an invite to a Gatsby party, which I unintentionally won on a bar bet. Well, I was not about to turn an opportunity down like that. So, two days later, I readied myself, and went out to his residence for the party reception.

It was stunning, lights music, dancing, all the glitz you could get in New York, all in one place. There was food for every palette. From meats to salads, and the deserts! There were mousses, cakes, sponges, a connoisseur’s delight. There were lavish dancers and very interestingly dressed woman, made many a married mans eyes wonder…much to the disbelief of their wives.

During the party a swell of laughter and cheer echoed from the far corner of the sitting room, I made my way over and shoved my face in-between the shoulders of two fat greasy men. There was a ventriloquist imitating the president and making fun of his recent controversial speeches. Luckily, the two fat men left after the chef brought out the pork platter and I could get a better view. And there he was, Jay Gatsby, advertising one of his recently learned skills, after a couple of rounds of exchanged laughs people dispersed about the room and I was able to have a conversation with Mr Gatsby. We talked about the New York social life and how his parties had such a great influence among the social rankings, for to be invited, was a great privilege and honour. When asked about the reasons for the extravagant parties, he said there was no real reason. At this statement, he said he had to attend to other matters, so he left the room. With that, I thought it was about time to leave, and so concluded my night at one of Gatsby’s parties, without a doubt an unforgettable experience.
