Dr. Jose Paciano Laurel is one of the most prominent Filipino leader who dominated the national stage during the first six decades of the 20th century. No other Filipino leader has had the honor of serving with distinction in all branches of government--judicial, legislative and executive--as Jose P. Laurel did. With his innumerable number of recognitions and distinctive contributions which resulted to the present societal situation we have today in our country, he truly proved that he possessed a moral character and traits worthy to be valued.

The moral character of Jose P. Laurel which I can consider as one of our greatest similarity is the value of being a God-Fearing person and having a strong faith in the superiority and power of our God. It is said and well define in the Ten Basic Principles of Dr. Jose P. Laurel that he believed in one Eternal God, Creator and Sustainer of the Universe, that there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God and Dr. Jose P. Laurel is a Christian hold that every man is man's brother and equal that he is against any discrimination on account of race, creed or color. This statement really upholds my character and perspective as a God-fearing person. I acquired a deep relationship with God which includes my faith everything he does for my life. It is also included to the motto and vision of Dr. Jose P. Laurel “Pro deo el Patria” which can be translated as “for God and Country” in English.

The trait of being a family oriented person is another character which I believe that Dr. Jose P. Laurel and I have in common. I value most the concept of family which also significantly embraces the love of my parents. Comparable to the love and respect that Dr. Jose P. Laurel gave to his parents, it is also the unconditional love and respect I’m willing to offer in any means to them. I can consider my family as my greatest strength to overcome any challenges and hardship in life.

Lastly, the good leadership skills and capacity which I also believe that correspondingly summarizes all other good characters. A good leader is committed, fight for what is right, honest, positive, has the ability to inspire, dedicated and many more. Indeed Dr. Jose P. Laurel owned most of these character mentioned which allows him to be suitable and entitled as one of the country’s renowned leader. I’m not claiming that I owned and possess all of these skills under leadership but I acquired some of these characters and traits which developed my leadership abilities. I already experienced being a leader, a leader to be followed and not a leader to be praised. Being a leader is not a simple task to be accomplished or a position to be recognized rather it is an action to be done with all your heart and dedication to serve and sacrifice for the betterment of majority.
