1. Justinian was an emperor who tried to re-conquer Roman lands to the west. Then he ordered a team of Greek and Latin scholars to compile and simplify the laws. Third, he undertook a massive building program in Constantinople.

2. The Justinian code is 5,000 laws arranged by topic of Justinian's scholars, thought to be useful for Byzantium. France and other countries in Western Europe follow Justinian's code as a guide on legal questions concerning justice, property, marriage, and divorce.

3. In 1054 A.D. the Eastern Orthodox Church broke off because there were too many differences between the Byzantine Christians and the Western Europe Christians. An example of this is the Western European priests who were not allowed to get married, but the Byzantine priests were. The Eastern Christian priests conducted services in many of the local languages, however in the Western Churches the priests only told their sermons in Latin.

4. The Muslim Armies took control of India all the way to Spain rapidly. After they would take over a territory, the citizens would have the option to convert to Islam, pay a tax, or die.

5. Umayyad was a family that killed Muhammad's grandson, Husayn and took the office of caliph.

6. The Islamic culture blended Christians, Jews, and Zoroastrians.

7. In the first chemical laboratories Islamic alchemists tried the impossible task of turning regular metals into Gold, but in the act found ways to separate one chemical compound from another. Rhazes wrote more than 100 treatises on medicine. His most famous work was actually a diagnosis for smallpox and treats it before the patient's condition became hopeless. Omar Khayyam made a collection of four-line poems called the Rubaiyat. The famous stanza shows how the poet celebrated the fleeting pleasures of life.
