Weekend

Nothing extraordinary happened last weekend. It was just like any other ordinary weekend.

I got up later than usual on Saturday morning. After breakfast I went over to my friend Arul's house and spent some time reading comics there. Arul has tons of comics. His father buys the latest for him. Being his friend, I get to read them too.

We read comics till lunch-time. Then I went home, had lunch and took an afternoon nap. Taking an afternoon nap is a pleasure that I can indulge in only on weekends. On weekdays I do not have time for it.

The rest of the afternoon I helped my father in the garden uprooting weeds and trimming the hedge. We continued until darkness fell. After that I had my bath and dinner. After dinner I watched television until it was time for bed.

I got up late too on Sunday morning. For breakfast I had cornflakes with milk while listening to the radio. Then I spent the rest of the morning doing homework.

Again I took a nap after lunch. Then I finished up my homework.

By the time I was done with the homework it was already evening. So I took a stroll around the neighborhood. It was a great feeling to be able to relax after all the homework had been done.

After dinner, I packed my books in my bag and went to bed early. I had to get enough sleep otherwise I would fall asleep in school the next day. Thus ended yet another weekend.

My weekend

I am a high school student. I go to school every day from Monday to Saturday. I am very busy with my studies. Sunday is my holiday.

On Sunday morning, I get up later than usual. After breakfast, I visit my close friend and we often go shopping downtown. Sometimes we go for a picnic in the countryside. In the afternoon, I prefer having a rest in my room, reading books or listening to pop music. Then after dinner, I prepare my lessons for the following week and go to bed early.

Once in a while, I spend my weekend joining the social activities organized by the Communist Youth Union of my school. We usually go along the streets raising money for charity or travel to remote areas to give help to poor people.

Sunday is a good time for me. It refreshes my mind after a week's hard work

Weekend

Basically , weekend , as the term suggests , is the end of a week . More

elaborately , it is suggest that certain period between the close of one

working or school week and the beginning of the forthcoming week . To

be more specific , weekend for me , is that two consecutive days that

stretches from Friday night to Sunday evening where you can go out on a

long trip or go on shopping or just bum around because there is neither

work nor school . Before reading the essay ''Weekend , it wasn 't my idea

that the word and the day designated as weekend evolved since I thought

it was a universal , time-old designation to end a week and a fixed day

on any year or generation . Upon reading the essay , I was amazed on the

way the author believes a weekend should be like . Also , the essay made

me wonder who designates the days to be considered as weekend and how

the idea of creating your own weekend came about .
