Three of the Most Offensive Sins

One of my favorite pieces of literature is Dante's Inferno. The story is of two poets, Dante and Virgil, who go on a tour of hell. Dante separates hell into a spiral of 9 circles, each representing a sin starting from the least offensive to the most. After reading the story in my literature class, I had to determine my own order. If the circles were composed of the seven deadly sins, my last three circles would have to be Sloth, Pride, and Wrath.

In a more contemporary definition, Sloth means not wanting to work for the things life has to offer. My Mother always told me that in life I will always have two strikes against me, one being a female and the other being a minority. The world would always expect for me to do and be less, so I would have to work twice as hard to prove them wrong. There are many women like me in the world who do not have the same understanding that I do, and want to have everything given to them. I have a cousin who has three children and is currently pregnant. She does not go to school, smokes marijuana everyday, and has not worked since 2002. She is still waiting for something better to come along but refuses to go out and get it. I find Sloth to be the least offensive of the top three because the sin takes a toll on the sinner as well as the people around them. Although, my cousin is the laziest person I know, she is nothing in comparison to my friend who is very high on Pride.

I believe every person is raised to be a little conceited, just enough to be proud of a job well-done, or to have enough pride in themselves as to not to let people get the best of them. But there are some cases where a person stops being humble for there accomplishments and rewards in life and begin to display a dark side. I read an article that identified people with too much pride as "ego-tripping". I have a friend who does exactly that. To him, he is the sun and the earth revolves around him. His parents always made sure he had nice things and although he works hard to keep them, it does not stop him from
