Seattle Washington

Throughout my life I have noticed different personality traits that I picked up from my parent, siblings, and my surroundings. I think the surroundings you grow up in play a key role in the development of your personality. My environment has influenced me in many ways, but there is one particular place that has made major impact on my life, Seattle, Washington. Their strong and diverse ethnic heritage influenced me and taught me to keep an open mind and listen to others' ideas and beliefs.

As long as I can remember my uncle, Bernie Potter, has lived in Seattle. The first time I visited was when my uncle was getting married, which made the trip even more memorable. I was shocked when I arrived by the diversity of people, mountains, lakes, and just the city in general. I had heard many stories about Seattle from my sister, Kristy, who was living with Bernie and attending the University of Washington. Seattle opened my eyes and my sisters to many different aspects in life.

Living in a smaller town you really do not experience the different types of cultures, customs, and food. When I first arrived in downtown Seattle, I was in a state of shock and admiration. That is when I realized I had to learn and accept many different life styles that were not normal to me. The more time I spent in Seattle and the more people I talked to from there, the more I realized that my perspective on life had entirely changed.

Seattle is anything but normal. If you take a minute and stop anywhere in Seattle, you might just notice that there are incredible things happening all around you. Downtown is energetic, while the neighborhoods are colorful and unfold into parks and smaller communities. This creative aspect of the city helps create your own personality. That is just what Seattle taught me to do, be myself and have my own ideas and opinions.
