Reflection on the Korean medical drama ‘Doctors’

In the 13 and 14 episode of the Korean drama ‘Doctors’, there is a man who has two sons. His sons have mental disorder. There names are Dal and Hae. Dal is a sever-year-old boy who always limps when he walks. He drag his legs when he walks. They go to the hospital to check about his condition. The doctor check on him. He examined Dal and asked him to walk toward him and he notices something about how Dal walking . The doctor discover that Dal has tumour called Medulloblastoma. Medulloblastoma is a cancerous tumor also called cerebellar primitive neuroectodermal tumor(PNET) that starts in the region of the brain at the base of the skull, called the posterior fossa. These tumours tend to spread to other parts of the brain and to the spinal cord. It causes nausea, migrain, hydrocephalus and even motor disturbance. Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumor of children. It suddenly impairs your walking or makes you falter. As the doctor and their father were talking, the other boy, Hae feels that he can pee. He needs to pee immediately. He looked for the toilets in the hospital and as he was running to the toilet, he keeps on tripping. There was a doctor who sees Hae and notice how Hae keeps on tripping and how he needs to pee immediately. She waits for him in the toilet. As Hae finished, she tries to talk to him and she also notice that he keeps on laughing even there is no funny thing to be laughing on. He laughs when he’s sad and even laughs in his sleep. The doctor says the his laughing is a sickness. He urinates often and keeps tripping up. It is a gelastic seizures as said by the doctor. He has hypothalamic hamartoma. it is a case of gelastic seizures. He’s seizures occur in a form of laughing. People suffering from gelastic seizure laughs all the time. The cause of his laughing is because the tumour is pressing hypothalamus. Hypothalamus controls everything including body temperature, breathing, emotion and even development. Hypothalamus affects the growth and development. If it will not be treated, it might develop precocious puberty. The father cannot afford to perform surgery for the both of them. As both of the needs operation because of their sickness.

Because of the financial problem of the father of the two boys, Dal was the first to get surgery. They perform the surgery to Dal and it went well. But after few days, Dal had feel headache and is throwing up. And it is the same with Hae who keeps vomiting and feeling weak. They think that Dal has hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is ………..  

An they had to perform the surgery again for Dal. It is a common post-surgery side effect as said by the doctor as he assures the father of the patient. the surgery went well again but it had not fully recovered.
