Despite being one of the most developed and richest countries in terms of technology and wealth, America was ranked highest by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in its relative poverty rate out of the top 23 richest countries by 2010 (Gould and Wething). It was also ranked sixth highest in child poverty out of the top 41 most developed, richest countries in 2012 behind Greece, Latvia, Spain, Mexico, and Israel by the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) (Fanjul 8, 2018). How could one of the highest ranked technologically leading countries be ranked so low in terms of the wealth of its citizens? This problem can be solved through means of charity, like donating mattresses clothes and extra materials that you don’t use, by donating sources of entertainment like video games movies and books that you don't use, or by volunteering in any way or form.

What do you do when you outgrow your clothes, or when you get new ones? Why not send them to a place where your old things can help someone else? Donating clothing mattresses or other linen to people who need it has two effects. One it opens up resale shops which create jobs and two it gives clothes to the poor population. With new stores entering the industry and current establishments opening additional locations, the industry has experienced a growth—in number of stores—of approximately 7% a year for the past two years. There are currently more than 25,000 resale, consignment and Not For Profit resale shops in the United States. Resale is a multi-billion dollar a year industry. First Research estimates the resale industry in the U.S. to have annual revenues of approximately $17 billion including revenue from antique stores which are 13% of their statistics. Goodwill Industries alone generated $5.37 billion in retail sales from more than 2,000 Not For Profit resale stores and online sales in 2014. Longtime NARTS member, Crossroads Trading Co., based in Berkeley, CA, rang up over $20 million in sales 2012. They have 32 locations, 375 employees and plans to add additional locations. (Narts, 2017)Just by donating linen that you don’t need you are contributing to the economy, creating jobs, and helping alleviate homelessness.

Many people have movies, CDs, video games, or books that they don’t use anymore, and that just take up space? Instead of letting these items go to waste, consider donating them. Most homeless people suffer from depression, and lack a source of entertainment. Entertainment doesn’t only relieve you of stress. It can also help you regain your energy and thus recharge your batteries. Your psyche redirects far from your everyday stresses and strains and you can occupy your brain from the typical calendar. along these lines, everybody must have a day by day measurements of entertainment. tuning into music is simply the least difficult approach to engage. going for a long excursion is dependably a smart thought.(Mthoodia,2016). Even donating books to the homeless can help by starting to give those people some education or learning opportunities that they may have missed out on. Just last year, 1.36 million students were found homeless just in public schools(Department of education,2017). Donating books to the library and to homeless people schools can greatly help people in need.
