Running a national park is fundamentally a business as any other and needs to be financed and managed in order to protect it. Unfortunately, governments of the word have not taken responsibility to run national pars. So it is absolutely understandable that organizations, which have to run national parks, are trying to join business, governments, partner organizations and indigenous people. The advantages of tourism outbalance the disadvantages. Integrated governments put off armed illegal hunting, partner organizations help each other with knowledge and indigenous people know the regional distinctions best.
Advantages of tourism by far outbalance the disadvantages. Many people say that tourism destroys local nature and just brings waste into that area. This may be right, but on the other hand tourism brings a lot of money. With that money you can build an infrastructure, which is the precondition to manage a national park. Tourism could also be used as a public relation machine, which means you can address a lot more people with your issue. In the end there is a tremendous benefit for the park
It is a good idea to integrate governments in the protection of national park, because they are the authority and nobody will risk civil disorder. It will put off many illegal hunters from killing animals. Furthermore, it will decrease organized trading, for example with ivory or rare animals. The best guarantor of any business couldn’t be a better than the state.
Very helpful is the network with other organizations. They have similar experiences in another field and may already have established solutions. They are able to share their knowledge. New strategies for water pipelines or optimizing animal breeding
