Current Affairs Analysis

In 1967 with political relations deteriorated between Israel and its neighbors, a six day war ensued. Israel's eternal struggle for freedom and an independent Jewish state almost vanished with a determined coalition of Arab and Egyptian forces hell bent on the destruction of Israel. The valiant forces of Israel with determination and self preservation on their minds defeated the rag tag band of marauders. With the defeat of the Arab and Egyptian forces Israel tripled its size and humiliated the Arab world. This humiliation would be the stage for years of suicide bombings and other terrorist attacks. With the West Bank and the Gaza Strip under Israeli control a population of political and civilian refugees formed with in these narrow borders. With a shared sense of community and the belief that their struggle would one day culminate in a shattered Israel and form into a united Palestine, terrorist organizations such as the Peoples Liberation Organization and Hamas are slowly and steadily gaining power in restoring their authority in the Gaza Strip.

With the Gaza Strip out of Israeli control, Israel is forced to deal the realization that the notion of Palestinian state is out of the question. Israel's livelihood is threatened, as Hamas gains momentum the separation between Hamas and Fatah will increase. With a dual political party system and Hamas's commitment to violence peace will likely remain illusive to Israel and its territories. Yaakov Amidror former head of Israel's military intelligence is believes that there is a military solution but it will be expensive and will cost the lives of many Palestinians and Israeli's alike. Amidror also believes that key areas where rockets are being launched need to be secured by the Israeli army and troops need to be station at the border of Egypt to deter weapons smugglers.
