The United States Government needs to legalize marijuana. Marijuana should be legalized not only for medical and economic purposes but many others. There is definitely enough reason of why this would be a logical act on the government's part, and I hope to point that out in this paper. There is a way to set up the limitations and laws pertaining to the legalization and possession of marijuana. I plan to tell you how and why we should legalize marijuana and also who else thinks that this is a great idea.

The first source that is useful in showing this argument is acceptable is an internet source. On a work cited page it would look something like this: Gary Wickert. "Pick your battle: Cancer or government- Nervous docs won't talk about marijuana." November, 2005. November, 12, 2005. < http://www.gmtoday.com/features/health/healthstory83.asp> This is a great article for many reasons. It mainly focuses on the alleviation of cancer sufferers from using marijuana. The article argues that the decisions of marijuana use belong in the hands of the scientist, doctors, and patients, not the government bureaucrats. Also the illegal use of marijuana in patients who found the drug to help many symptoms of their illnesses and the side effects of the prescription drugs they take for them. Some of these illnesses include Cancer, HIV, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and glaucoma. This is a great source and I intend to use it in this argument.

A second source that will be helpful in presenting this argument is: Loren Siegel. "American Voters' opinions on the use and legalization of Marijuana for Medical purposes." November 9, 1995. November 12, 2005. This source states the results of four pre-survey focus groups in 1995.The results of this work clearly demonstrate that a very substantial majority of the voting public supports a change in marijuana policy with respect to its medical uses. Topics agreed upon include; thinking marijuana would be good to legalize for medical purposes, and knowing people who have found it effective in treating many medical problems. As any one can see this is a very useful source to support this movement.

A third source for my belief is; Dr. Julian Heicklen. "Opening Speech." Doctor November 12, 2005. This specific source states very strong reason for legalizing and accepting marijuana use and how it can improve our country. It states that it is immoral to arrest someone for a vegetable, and how we have the right to keep and bear vegetables. Also that the most fundamental right we have is to have control over our own bodies and as long as we are not harming others, your body belongs to you. So for example if you want to smoke a joint, which contains an herb, which is a vegetable, then you have the right to. Another good reason for legalizing marijuana is for economic reasons.
