In Britain there is a rising population, which means we are having an increase in people who drive vehicles. As this population rises we would think there will be more minor, serious and more fatal accidents on our roads.

In chart 1a we can see a trend of the population of people owning a vehicle rising, this could mean more deaths and this is what is happening for 35 years until 1985 where the number of deaths start to go below the traffic line which is always relative to the data, this means that there is a percentage decrease in the number of deaths. One possible reason for this is the government have realised the seriousness of deaths and have decided to create more speed bumps or they have introduced more safety regulation such as speed cameras and sign posts. As the number of deaths decreased so have the number of accidents, showing that these two lines have a similar trend but even so they have a distance form each other because there are many more accidents. As the population of vehicle owners are at it’s peak in 2005 the number of deaths have decreased by around 40%, this is very good and shows that what the government has done is not only been sustained but also has improved.

In this graph the population is still rising which is the same relative to graph 1a and so is the number of deaths because they are decreasing. But as the injuries line is more near to the deaths line in this graph. At the very beginning of the injuries it stars to increase but as it hits the year 2000 it starts to decrease. Between the years 1994-2003 the distance between the lines increases and in chart 1b the distance is more narrow’ this may be because safer cars are being created (which could be shown by the number of vehicles being made increasing) and therefore
