Sociological Culture Concepts Through Cars

Advertising in society controls what people value within society and themselves. One of the best advertisements to give evidence to this are vehicle advertisements. Car ads are everywhere and can encourage people to purchase cars for different reasons. Many times a car can be a tribute to wealth, a self esteem boost, or a symbol of compassion to the environment.

To many achievement and success is social mechanism to out do, over power, and out shine. One of the easiest ways to out do another person is by owning a better car. Cars can depict a persons sense of power. People can use cars to display their wealth and status. How can one compare a Hyundai versus a Bentley? Or a Tahoe to a Range Rover? In today's society, the more luxurious the car is the more luxurious your lifestyle might be. The more expensive the car is the greater income one has. Many times people want to have expensive cars to show society that you are part of the elite few that can own one. An example of achievement and success is the Range Rover ad, the setting for the ad is stating that one who owns a Ranger Rover has ascended to a higher level of success. Sometimes peoples needs to out shine is more important than the quality or style of the car. For example take the Porsche ad, states the need to flash ones income instead of focusing style.

Sometimes a persons need to own an exotic vehicle is due to the need to over compensate for what one is lacking or has lost. People use material comfort to suppress their self conscience awareness to their physical and emotional flaws. For example a male who is self conscience with his physical attributes will by an expensive and luxurious car to boost his self esteem. A good example of this is the Bentley ad, states "For When Your Penis Is Just Too Small". This proves the car will comfort the male because he will associate the social acceptance of his car to his own acceptance. The same can be said about woman, material comfort can compensate for ones insecurity.

Many people can use cars as a symbol of their humanitarianism.

Many people portray their compassion toward society by using hybrid cars. An example of this is the advertisement of the Toyota Prius. Owning a hybrid
