Governors

In the world as we know it, our history that typically tells why a leader was a great success or a triumphant failure. With this said no matter how good or bad a leader may turn out to be; they all seem to have at least one successful trait about them that granted them some form of success. This is such the story with three known authors from the past including Lau-Tzu, Niccolo Machiavelli and Thomas Jefferson. Lao-Tzu believes the ultimate purpose of a governor is to let the people make mistakes and let them take care of there own issues. With Niccolo Machiavelli, his defined purpose of a governor was to be a leader that had a priority on maintaining success with people coming second at times. On the other hand, Thomas Jefferson thought he should lay down a foundation and principles, for the safety and happiness of the people. Although they all shared some forms of success in there own right they all poses traits and beliefs that set them apart.

According to Lao-Tzu, a ruler should not try to control instead let the people govern themselves. He believed "the way" is to do nothing and things should fall in to place. Through tolerance the world on its own would balance it self. His views are important because he gave people the power of choice yet insured that the ruler is there to pick up the pieces when necessary. He advises and demanded selfishness; that inaction would bring about better results. With that said Niccolo Machiavelli ideals would seem to be quite the opposite.

Niccolo Machiavelli differed because his center of attention was more focused on practical course of action, to secure power. He felt that the appearance of fairness and thoroughness was necessary, but should be able to stay in command; yet not seem cruel. To Machiavelli war was a priority and to be a good warrior one must have the ability to take advantage of opponents. He felt that this ability was the most important. Under his ideals to be a good leader it is imperative to have control and proficiency which aids in helping to maintain order.
