EVELYN GLENNIE

CONTEMPORARY PERCUSSIONIST

20th CENTURY

Evelyn's main concern is that the performance industry is not giving it customers

what she wants to give them. Evelyn wants the audience to be enlightened and amused on

how the classical music flows. Evelyn wants the audience to have a better understanding

on classical music and learn more about it and most of all to enjoy the sound.

Although, there is a currently surging interest in seeing live events, there has been a

continued decline in attendance at many classical venues around the world. Evelyn

explained that due to minor education on classical music, people are rarely interested.

Therefore resulting in the steady decline in attendance and interest in classical music.

Labor laws in the USA allows that any number of crews be allowed to work on

events irrespective of what is required. Composers usually travel with their own team;

still the laws give the rights to the venues' extra crew to work, while the sponsors are

paying for everything resulting in the high and still rising production cost.

To increase interest and attendance at orchestra concerts, Evelyn suggests that each

performer should be excellent giving the audience a good time. And to give the guest an

orchestra felling since they walk thru the door. While attending a blue man group concert

in Toronto, Evelyn said that she had a wonderful experience from the moment she walks

true the venues' doors.

I agree with Evelyn in all she said. People would be more interested and willing to

see a classical concert if they were more lectures and public advertisement on classical

music. Expenses would go down if they start revising labor laws giving venues crews the

right to work on something although the composer brought its own crew. Evelyn is trying

to bring something beautiful to the human ear that has been ignored and unappreciated

due to lack of interest and management skills on classical music.

At the tender age of eight, Evelyn began taking piano lessons.
