Duty-based Ethics Deontological ethics is the focus on rightness or wrongness of the action itself rather than the consequences of those actions.

This theory stresses that fidelity to principle and duty are the most important. The consequence of an action does not matter. What matters is that the act itself is right, that one does one's duty.

Goal-based Ethics Goal-Based ethics say that we ought to do whatever maximizes good consequences. It doesn't in itself matter what kind of thing we do. What matters is that we maximize good results. Utilitarianism is the ethical doctrine that the moral worth of an action is solely determined by its contribution to overall good to be maximized.
